- The seventh and final Qualifying Round spots of the Allianz Junior Badminton Championship (AJBC) 2022 was up for grabs for players wanting to make the cut for the Grand Finals which begins on 24 November.
- Held at the Havona Badminton Academy in Kluang, Johor last weekend, it was a girl power weekend as Dania Sofea from SMK Skudai captured the Girl’s U-15 Singles and Doubles title while SJKC Li Chi’s Low Zi Yu emulated Dania’s performance with a clinical win in both Girl’s U-13 Singles and Doubles. The focus now will shift back to the Klang Valley for the Grand Finals after AJBC made stops in other states such as Kedah, Terengganu, Perak, Pulau Pinang and Negeri Sembilan.
- Supported by the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) and the Malaysian Schools Sports Council (MSSM), the AJBC consist of seven Qualifying Rounds which were held between July and November this year.
- From 24 to 26 November, the AJBC Grand Finals which will feature 150 finalists from all seven Qualifying Rounds, competing for bragging rights in the four events – boy’s singles, boy’s doubles, girl’s singles, and girl’s doubles, in the Under-13 (13-year-olds and below) and Under-15 (14 to 15-year-olds) categories.
- Allianz Malaysia Berhad Chief Executive Officer, Sean Wang said: “The Kluang-leg marks our penultimate event, and it has been very inspiring seeing young shuttlers from diverse backgrounds across the country compete over the seven grueling, but exciting qualifying rounds. The ultimate showdown, the Grand Finals will happen in less than two weeks. The stakes are high, and we can hardly wait to see all the action on the courts.”
