  • The 2026 edition of the Allianz Junior Badminton Championship (AJBC) kicked off with a bang, with Tan Zhi Ying winning top honours in both the U-15 Girls’ Singles and Doubles categories.

  • The first Qualifying Round of the AJBC took place from 24 to 26 April 2026 in Ipoh, Perak, where Zhi Ying, who hails from SMK Sultan Abdul Aziz, defeated Yong Hui Teng of SMJK Ayer Tawar to clinch the U-15 Girls’ Singles.

  • Zhi Ying and Hui Teng then teamed up in the U-15 Girls’ Doubles to overcome the pair of Cheah Zhi Yi of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Perempuan Methodist and Loh Hui Yee from SMK Yuk Choy.

  • Another double winner of the day was Chew Yu Qi from SMK(L) Methodist, who beat Tan Sheng Yu of SJK(C) Hua Lian 1 in the U-13 Boys’ Singles final. Yu Qi also won the U-13 Boys’ Doubles together with Chui Guang Yew of Confucian Private Secondary School, after they defeated Gan Sin Han from Chung Hwa High School and Mohamad Aqil Thaqif of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Bandar Maharani, Muar.

  • The U-15 Boys’ Singles title went to Cheng Jia Hao from Yik Ching High School, who beat Chee Jia Xuan from SMK Methodist (ACS) Kampar Perak.

  • On the U-15 Boys’ Doubles court, Fawwaz Sufyan Mohd Suib of SMK Ahmad Boestamam partnered Tan Teng Hinn from SMJK Hua Lian to emerge victorious over Lee Kim Wan of San Min Suwa and Soo Jin Yik from SMK San Min.

  • Meanwhile, Loh Hui Yee from SMK Yuk Choy was crowned winner of the U-13 Girls’ Singles following her defeat of Ng Yong Qing from SMK Perempuan Methodist.

  • Yong Qing then made a comeback with schoolmate Phoon Zoey to clinch the U-13 Girls’ Doubles over Putree Nadhira Adliana of SK Taman Nirwana and Teo May Zhi from Sekolah Menengah Jenis Kebangsaan Katholik Petalin.

  • A total of 296 players took part in this Qualifying Round, the first of 10 rounds which will culminate in the year-end Grand Finals. The event was graced by YB Wong Kah Woh, Deputy Minister of Education.

  • The AJBC Grand Finals 2026 featuring U-13 and U-15 finalists from all the Qualifying Rounds, will take place in Kuala Lumpur from 2 to 7 December 2026. Each round will see 24 players qualifying for the finals. The Under-11 players will not advance to the AJBC Grand Finals.
  •  
  • As in previous years, players participating in the AJBC Qualifying Rounds are not required to pay any entrance fees. The top three winners in the Qualifying Rounds, for all age categories, will earn RM500, RM300 and RM150 (singles) and RM600, RM400 and RM200 (doubles). Players finishing in the top three at the Grand Finals will pocket RM1,000, RM600 and RM300 (singles) and RM1,200, RM800 and RM400 (doubles).

  • 12 winners will also be chosen to join an exclusive international training camp, where they will have the opportunity to train with world-class coaches and experience a competitive global environment.

  • Registration for Qualifying Round 2 in Putrajaya commenced on 14 April 2026. The AJBC is supported by the Sports, Co-curricular and Arts Division, Ministry of Education Malaysia and the Badminton Association of Malaysia.
