The Article

If you have been an obedient citizen during the Government’s Movement Control Order (MCO) period, you would find your car’s fuel meter has barely moved or that your car has been sitting aimlessly in the driveway or parking spot.

Leaving your car idle for a long period of time is not great for your car health. Allianz General Insurance Company (Malaysia) Berhad Head of Motor Jimmy Tan shares some tips to keep your beloved car in good condition during this MCO period.

Take it for a drive
Get your ketua rumah (head of the household) to alternate between cars when going out to buy groceries. Driving it for a short distance maybe once a week would keep your car running smoothly and helps to recharge the battery! Also, when you begin your drive, remember to accelerate slowly.

Fuel up and pump your tires
The next time you are out getting groceries, fill up the tank. This will prevent moisture from building up inside the tank. While you are at the petrol station, inflate your tires. This is because temperature changes may also cause your tires to slowly lose its pressure. Important note: Always exercise good hygiene when at the station. Bring along a hand sanitiser and use it to clean your hands before you get into your car.

Clean your car
Take this opportunity to do a little spring cleaning. Give the interior a good wipe down and remove all unwanted items. If you live in a landed property, you could also give your car a good wash right in the comforts of your house compound. Plus, it can double up as a great workout! And if you have the time (which you do!), give your car a new coat of polish or wax to protect the finish.

Keep It Covered
Show your car some extra care and use a cover to protect it from the sun and rain.
