About sixty young graduates experienced the ultimate challenge during the Allianz Escape 30 as they vied to join Allianz Malaysia Berhad’s Management Associate Program.

Held at Wisma Allianz from 5 to 6 August 2017, Allianz Escape 30 was a fusion of Internet of Things (IoT) and Hackathon which comprise of coding projects, sales and leadership activities, business planning, case studies and other interesting activities. The participants engaged in a competitive challenge whilst working in teams to complete 10 tasks that involved them working together to plan, build, test and present electronic devices within 30 hours. 

“We wanted to adopt a fresh approach and to tap on the creativity and high energy from the onset of the selection process of our Management Associate Program.   Basically, we are asking you to unleash your inner Da Vinci in 30 hours,” said Wong Woon Man, Head of Human Resources, Allianz Malaysia Berhad. 

IoT is the inter-networking of electronics around you from vehicles, buildings and other devices that allows the collection and exchange of data via the Internet while Hackathon is a sprint-like event that focuses on computer coding and software development. Thus, participants experienced a non-stop challenge in which they had to run trial runs, and two hours of a Pitch-Out Session where they presented their completed innovations.

The teams were then judged based on the time needed to complete each task and the time taken to complete the entire Allianz Escape 30 challenge. Each participant was also observed individually based on qualities such as leadership, and creativity they showcase during the entire process. 

“By bringing together talents from diverse backgrounds and experiences, the exercise was the perfect way for us to attract open-minded and well-rounded talents. The design of the challenge means that the talents are only limited by their own imagination. So it goes beyond the pressure of just acing an interview. It’s removing the mirrors and the masks which allow us as employers to see the real personalities and potential of the talent,” added Woon Man.   

The Allianz Management Associate Program offers candidates a 360 degree learning experience. Successful candidates will spend 12-18 months working across different functions to gain a holistic view of Allianz’s business operations.
