SAFA Kota Belud were crowned East Malaysia  Region champions of  the Allianz Junior Football Camp (AJFC) Malaysia League2017 Regional Finals after beating Kalawon (Tenom) 1-0 at Stadium Universiti Malaysia Sabah in Kota Kinabalu today.

Meanwhile, Simfiled  Academy FC beat TABS Bandaraya 1-0 to finish third and fourth respectively.

Both sides began the match on the offensive, however, it was a lucky break for SAFA Kota Belud who went ahead through a Mohd Nazimizan Naslun penalty in the 20th minute. Kalawon started the second half with more urgency looking to level the score but failed to find the back fo the net.

I’m very happy and never expected the win. We live in the outskirts and we came from afar with a dream. There were a lot of obstacles and challenges, but the fighting spirit of my boys is the reason we are champions,” said team coach Dzulpie Elly.

The AJFC Malaysia League offers aspiring Malaysian footballers aged 14 to 16 the opportunity to train with record 26-time German Champions FC Bayern Munich in Munich, Germany.

This year, the six-week league competition was played across five regions, culminating with the respective regional finals in Southern (7 May), Northern (10 May), East Coast (13 May), Central (14 May) and East Malaysia (20 May).

The top 18 players from each region will be selected to represent their region in the Regional Finals at Stadium Universiti Putra, Serdang on 13 to 15 July 2017. Following the Regional Finals, the best 13 players will be selected for AJFC Asia Camp in Bali, Indonesia 1-4 August 2017. At Asia Camp, the best three Malaysian players will be selected to attend AJFC in Munich, Germany from 17-22 August 2017.

AJFC Malaysia debuted in 2012 with the Asia Camp introduced in 2014. Malaysia’s participation at AJFC in Munich, Germany has steadily grown from two entrants in 2012 to five entrants including a set of twins who were wildcard winners from the Asia Camp in Bali, Indonesia.
