Kuantan Soccerkids A were crowned East Coast Region champions of the Allianz Junior Football Camp (AJFC) Malaysia League2017 Regional Finals for the second straight year after beating SMK Dato’ Mahmud Mat Pekan 5-3 on penalties at Stadium Darul Makmur in Kuantan yesterday. 

The match went to a penalty shootout after both team failed to find the net in extra time. (note: Match is played over 70 minutes and 10 minutes of extra time).

Aliff Zulfakar Ahmad Rahimi, Muhammad Kama Edyka Azhar, Mohamad Aiqal Saidon, Mohamad Afiq Eqwan Rozaini and Muhammad Taufiq Mohammad Khadri all converted from the spot for Kuantan Socerkids A while Mohamad Imran Mohamad Nor, Muhammad Hazril Shafiq Hamdan and Muhammad Safwan Mohd Azahar scored for SMK Dato’ Mahmud Mat Pekan.

Meanwhile, Tunas Lagenda Pahang beat Kuantan Soccerkids B 2-1 to finish third and fourth respectively.

“The experience of losing to them 0-1 in the league taught us a lot and we were able to out up a better performance in the final. It was a very close fight and both teams had a lot of chances at goal. To win on penalites, I think rezeki also was on our side. Now we are champions two years in a row,” said Fairul Hisham, head coach of Kuantan Soccerkids A.  

The AJFC Malaysia League offers aspiring Malaysian footballers aged 14 to 16 the opportunity to train with record 26-time German Champions FC Bayern Munich in Munich, Germany.

This year, the six-week league competition was played across five regions, culminating with the respective regional finals in Southern (7 May), Northern (10 May), East Coast (13 May), Central (14 May) and East Malaysia (20 May).  

The top 18 players from each region will be selected to represent their region in the Regional Finals at Stadium Universiti Putra Malaysia in Serdang on 13 to 15 July 2017. Following the Regional Finals, the best 13 players will be selected for AJFC Asia Camp in Bali, Indonesia 1-4 August 2017. At Asia Camp, the best three Malaysian players will be selected to attend AJFC in Munich, Germany from 17-22 August 2017. 

AJFC Malaysia debuted in 2012 with the Asia Camp introduced in 2014. Malaysia’s participation at AJFC in Munich, Germany has steadily grown from two entrants in 2012 to five entrants including a set of twins who were wildcard winners from the Asia Camp in Bali, Indonesia.
