The Article

Allianz Malaysia employees rolled up their sleeves on the first day of Hari Raya Aidilfitri to serve around 350 homeless and the urban poor community at the Pertubuhan Tindakan Wanita Islam (PERTIWI) Soup Kitchen in Medan Tuanku and Jalan Hang Lekiu. During the session on 15 June, the volunteers served meals and beverages to the homeless and urban poor community around the area. “Festive seasons are especially poignant when we get to go home and spend time with our loved ones. We were touched with our employees who set aside their time on a public holiday to spend some quality time to help others, an unselfish act as we usher in the month of Syawal. Most soup kitchens rely on volunteers to run the service and Allianz Malaysia is more than happy to engage our employees as volunteers to help serve the community.To-date, almost 310 Allianz Malaysia volunteers have participated in the sessions and it has been a rewarding way for us to reach out to the underserved community.” said Ng Siew Gek, Head of Allianz4Good, Allianz Malaysia Berhad. PERTIWI is an organisation that is dedicated towards addressing the welfare and needs of marginalised groups in Malaysia. The mobile soup kitchen project which began in 2010 provides free meals, basic medical aid and other forms of assistance to the homeless and urban poor community in various locations around Kuala Lumpur.
