Allianz Malaysia organised a Junior Road Safety Awareness Workshop on 21 December 2015 for 24 employees and agents’ children. The workshop was conducted by DeCARE at its road safety circuit in Putrajaya. DeCARE, an acronym for “Children and Adult Road Education”, is a Road Safety programme which is open to groups of all ages and managed by the Road Safety Unit of Putrajaya Corporation.
This workshop was first held in December 2013 where it gained positive responses from participants and their parents. “The Junior Road Safety Awareness Workshop is an initiative of Allianz Malaysia as part of our efforts to instil road safety awareness among children in a more interactive way,” said Ng Siew Gek, Head of Allianz4Good, Allianz Malaysia’s Corporate Responsibility Department.
At the DeCARE circuit, the children alternated between different activities with an assigned trainer. These activities included learning to cross the street properly, recognising road traffic signs and basic road safety rules; completing a road safety quiz; being pedestrians on the road, driving various vehicles such as go-karts, mini motorcycles and bicycles with the aim to advocate road safety among children and issuance of summons by the trainers for traffic offences committed by the participants.
The workshop received positive feedback from the participants and their parents as they found it beneficial.
“We will continue to have more activities to promote road safety as part of our initiatives to create public awareness on road safety,” said Ng.
Since 2011 till to-date, Allianz Malaysia has held 127 road safety advocacy campaigns in schools, at accident prone areas as well as during major festivals to create road safety awareness among members of the public.
Globally, Allianz has partnered with the Federation Internationale de l'Automobile (“FIA”) Foundation’s Road Safety Fund in support of the UN “Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011-2020” under the mission “Drive Safely” in 2011. Through this, public awareness is raised on road safety issues including activities on global road safety concerns, driver’s behaviour and safety training, vehicle safety and road infrastructure.
