Allianz Malaysia conducted road safety educational programme in two schools in Sabah.

The programme was held on 9 November 2016 at two schools in Tawau, SJK (C) Hing Hwa and SJK (C) Yuk Chin.

“The programme is part of our effort to instil road safety awareness among the general public, especially among primary school students. Schools are among our focus areas this year, in addition to regular road safety advocacy campaigns held in collaboration with Jabatan Keselamatan Jalan Raya (JKJR) since July 2011,” said Lee Kin Meng, Allianz General Insurance Company (Malaysia) Berhad’s Lahad Datu and Tawau Branch Manager.

The programme emphasised on three main topics namely; pedestrian safety, vehicle safety and basic road signs. These were taught using various activities such as quizzes, educational videos, giant puzzles and road safety sign games.

During the programme, Allianz Malaysia distributed its in-house designed Road Safety Tips booklets and reflective wristbands with the message “Be Safe, Be Seen” to the students who attended the programme. In addition, Allianz Malaysia also distributed Road Safety Tips Puzzle to each school as a teaching tool for the teachers to facilitate road safety lessons.

“The programme is an extension of our Road Safety Tips Booklet which aims to instil road safety awareness among children aged between 4 to 12 years old. It also serves as a teaching tool for teachers and parents to educate children on road safety,” said Lee.
The programme held in Sabah reached out to more than 160 students.

In 2016, Allianz Malaysia continues its road safety initiatives by organising road safety advocacy campaigns in schools and accident prone areas to create road safety awareness among members of the public.

To date, a total of 148 Road Safety Advocacy Campaigns have been held nationwide with more than 440 Allianz employees trained by JKJR as Road Safety Ambassadors.

Globally, Allianz has partnered with the Federation Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) Foundation’s Road Safety Fund in support of the UN “Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011-2020” under the mission “Drive Safely” in 2011. Through this, public awareness is raised on road safety issues including activities on global road safety concerns, driver’s behaviour and safety training, vehicle safety and road infrastructure
