Allianz Malaysia held a road safety advocacy campaign at Sekolah KebangsaanPulau Bahagia, Kuala Terengganu, Terengganu today.  The campaign is part of the Company’s efforts to instil road safety awareness among the general public, including students.

Allianz General Insurance Company (Malaysia) Berhad’s (“Allianz General”) Kuala Terengganu Branch Manager, Tan Sin Cheang said, “Schools are among our focus areas this year, in addition to regular road safety advocacy campaigns held in collaboration with Jabatan Keselamatan Jalan Raya (“JKJR”) since July 2011. To date, a total of 112 Road Safety Advocacy Campaigns have been held nationwide with more than 440 Allianz employees trained by JKJR as Road Safety Ambassadors.”

The campaign started with a welcome address by the school’s Headmaster, Encik Rashid Bin Yahya. This was followed by speeches by Tan Sin Cheang and JKJR Kuala Terengganu’s Director, Ahmad Firdaus bin Haron.The campaign emphasised four elements of road safety; how to cross roads safely and understanding traffic hazards, proper wearing of helmets for cyclists and motorcyclists, getting into the habit of wearing seatbelts, and understanding basic road safety rules and traffic signage. Subsequently, 200 reflective wristbands with the message “Be Safe, Be Seen” and 200 Road Safety Tips Booklets were distributed to the school children and teachers.

“The Allianz Road Safety Tips Booklet is another initiative of Allianz Malaysia which aims to further our efforts to instil road safety awareness among children by reaching out to a bigger audience. It serves as a reminder for children as well as a teaching tool for teachers and parents,” said Tan. 

The booklet, which contains road safety tips, was developed internally by Allianz Malaysia with consultation from JKJR.  It provides handy tips on road safety for children aged four to twelve years old.  The booklet compliments the road safety advocacy campaigns held by Allianz Malaysia, in particular primary school campaigns which aim to instil road safety awareness among school children. It serves as an after-campaign reminder for students. Additionally, Allianz Malaysia distributed five sets of its road safety tips puzzle to the school as a teaching tool for the teachers to facilitate road safety lessons. 

Allianz Malaysia’s Road Safety Advocacy Campaign at Sekolah Kebangsaan Pulau Bahagia, Kuala Terengganu reached out to more than 200 students and teachers of the school.

Allianz Malaysia’s road safety initiatives in 2015 include plans to organise road safety advocacy campaigns in schools, at accident prone areas as well as during major festivals to create road safety awareness among members of the public. 

Globally, Allianz has partnered with the Federation Internationale de l'Automobile (“FIA”) Foundation’s Road Safety Fund in support of the UN “Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011-2020” under the mission “Drive Safely” in 2011. Through this, public awareness is raised on road safety issues including activities on global road safety concerns, driver’s behaviour and safety training, vehicle safety and road infrastructure.
