Allianz Malaysia conducted a Flood Preparedness Programme at Sekolah Kebangsaan Kempadang in Kampung Kempadang that has been appointed as a flood evacuation centre.

The programme was organised for the school as well as community residing in the flood prone area in Kempadang.

“Over the last few years, Malaysia was hit by several flood incidents and in some instances, claimed lives of people. We have seen our customers and even our own employees going through a flood situation, and was faced with numerous challenges arising from the flood,” said Sheena Chua, Allianz General Insurance Company (Malaysia) Berhad’s Kuantan Branch Manager.

During the programme, Captain K. Balasupramaniam, Programme Trainer, an expert in flood survival and drowning risks imparted his knowledge on what to do before, during and after a flood and the right evacuation methods to prepare the community for future flood situations.

“Learning from the experience, we understand that the key to mitigating such risks is to have adequate preparation. In an effort to build resilient communities, we started organising a series of Flood Preparedness Programme at identified evacuation centres,” she added.

As part of its mitigation efforts, Allianz Malaysia developed an Allianz Survival Kit along with a Flood Preparedness Brochure. The Survival Kit provides tools that are essential in the event of an emergency or evacuation whereas the brochure gives a detailed guide on what to do before, during and after flood.

In addition, a Flood Saver Kit which contains a set of flood safety items was presented to the identified evacuation centre for use in the event of a flood.

As part of the initiative, a total of 200 Allianz Survival Kits were also distributed to the participants of the said campaign.
