The Article

It was all about celebrating culture for Allianz Malaysia Berhad as it commemorated Malaysia Day today.

Following the theme Dive into Malaysian Culture, this year, Allianz Malaysia aimed at acquainting employees with new information and activities to cure any cultural curiosity.

The Company transformed its corporate floor at the Head Office into a cultural oasis with eight exhibitions showcasing among others Malaysian history, traditional musical instruments and costumes, traditional games and local food.

Some of the highlights from the exhibition included Sarawakian musician Saufi Aiman Yahya who gave a Sape performance followed by a music workshop on how to play the traditional lute of the Kenyah community. Besides that, employees were also able to participate in other activities such as Ketupat weaving, Henna drawing session, saree tying demonstration and how to make lanterns.

“Every year we do something special to commemorate Malaysia Day. It was especially important this year that we came together to embrace and learn about each other’s culture,” said Zakri Khir, Chief Executive Officer of Allianz Malaysia Berhad.

“Culture is a vital part of nation-building; it influences our identity, promotes values such as diversity and unity. Our multiculturalism has always been the glue that kept us together. So this was a way for us to get re-acquainted with each other's culture again and celebrate what it truly means to be Malaysian,” added Zakri.

At the Head Office, employees also had the chance to compete in the Tekaria Budaya Hunt to test their cultural knowledge and screenings of a trio of Malaysian movies – Sepet, The Journey, and Papadom.  In addition to that, employees were also treated to a Malaysian lunch featuring Nasi Lemak, Coconut Candy, Angku kuih (Red Tortoise Cake), Sarawak layer cake, Cekodok Bawang (onion fritters), Currypuff, and Cincau (grass jelly).

Not to be outdone, Allianz Malaysia’s 33 branches nationwide also celebrated by participating in a Branch Decoration contest. Besides that, all employees nationwide also took home giveaways of guli (marble) and batu seremban (five stones), a throwback to traditional childhood games.
