The Article

Allianz Malaysia donated a Nissan Navara four-wheel drive pickup truck to Pertubuhan Tindakan Wanita Islam (PERTIWI) and helped out at PERTIWI Soup Kitchen’s food distribution activities at Lorong Medan Tuanku 2, Medan Tuanku, Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

The event started with the vehicle handover from Zakri Khir, CEO of Allianz Malaysia Berhad and Joseph Gross, CEO of Allianz Life Insurance Malaysia Berhad to Y. Bhg. Tan Sri Datuk (Dr.) Rafiah Salim, PERTIWI’s President.

Zakri and Joseph, as well as a team of Allianz volunteers then joined the PERTIWI volunteers at the soup kitchen activities where they distributed food and drinks to hundreds of people.

The donated Nissan Navara truck will be used by PERTIWI Health Services’ volunteer doctors to provide basic medical services to the homeless and the poor along with the food distribution service.

“We are glad to be able to help the needy and we hope the truck will extend the reach of PERTIWI Health Services to more people in need,” said Zakri.

PERTIWI is an organisation that is dedicated towards addressing the welfare and needs of marginalised groups in Malaysia. Among PERTIWI's social missions and welfare activities is their mobile soup kitchen project which began in 2010. The soup kitchen provides free meals and other forms of assistance to the homeless and hard-core poor people in various locations around Kuala Lumpur, whereas PERTIWI Health Services gives basic medical service for the benefit of the poor.

“PERTIWI strongly believes in working closely with the community for the benefit of the community at large. Next year, PERTIWI turns 50, a mature NGO looking forward to doing a lot more for the marginalised groups, thanks to the support from Allianz and other corporate sponsors,” said Y. Bhg. Tan Sri Datuk (Dr.) Rafiah.

“This is our first time working with PERTIWI. We see many similarities between our organisations. PERTIWI provides services that help those in need to get back on their feet when they are in a tough situation, much like our role as an insurer. As such we hope this is just the beginning of a long partnership,” concluded Zakri.
