The Article

In conjunction with Malaysia Day, Allianz Malaysia Berhad held their nationwide Blood Donation Drive and Organ Donation Pledge at Semantan Walk, in Temerloh, Pahang on 16 September 2017.

An annual event since 2014, the drive, in collaboration with the National Blood Centre and National Transplant Resource Centre, will be held at six locations from 13 to 26 September 2017 with four locations open to public.

Hospitals need around 2,000 pints of blood daily to treat 1,000 patients. However, blood donation awareness is still low, with just 2.2 per cent of the entire Malaysian population donating blood last year . Moreover, between 1997 and July this year, only 393,221 people or 1.2 per cent of the 32 million population in Malaysia has pledged to donate their organs.

“Donating blood and pledging to donate organs is a noble act and we were thankful to all those who supported the drive as we were able to garner 45 pints of blood and 12 organ pledges. The drive was held on Malaysia Day which was significant to us as it brought people of all walks of live to come together for a common cause. On top of that, we hope that this initiative will have a lasting impact that raises greater public awareness on the importance of blood and organ donation and encourages more people to step forward and be part of this noble cause,” said Nazaruddin Ab Majid, Temerloh Branch Manager for Allianz General Insurance Company (Malaysia) Berhad.
