The Article

In conjunction with Malaysia Day, Allianz Malaysia Berhad held their nationwide Blood Donation Drive and Organ Donation Pledge at Mahkota Parade in Melaka on 15 September 2017.

An annual event since 2014, the drive, in collaboration with the National Blood Centre and National Transplant Resource Centre, will be held at six locations from 13 to 26 September 2017 with four locations open to public.

Hospitals need around 2,000 pints of blood daily to treat 1,000 patients. However, blood donation awareness is still low, with just 2.2 per cent of the entire Malaysian population donating blood last year . Moreover, between 1997 and July this year, only 393,221 people or 1.2 per cent of the 32 million population in Malaysia has pledged to donate their organs.

“In the spirit of Malaysia Day, we were glad to unite people through the selfless act of donating blood and pledging to donate their organs to help save lives. We were able to garner 42 pints of blood and 25 organ pledges during our drive yesterday and we were glad that the public stepped forward to be part of this cause. We hope that this initiative will raise greater public awareness on the importance of blood and organ donation,” said Nicholas Gue Seng Teck, Melaka and Muar Branch Manager for Allianz General Insurance Company (Malaysia) Berhad.
