The Article

In conjunction with Malaysia Day, Allianz Malaysia kicked off its nationwide Blood Donation Drive and Organ Donation Pledge at its Head Office in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

An annual event since 2014, the drive, in collaboration with the National Blood Centre and National Transplant Resource Centre, will be held at six locations from 13 to 26 September 2017 with four locations open to public.

Hospitals need around 2,000 pints of blood daily to treat 1,000 patients. However, blood donation awareness is still low, with just 2.2 per cent of the entire Malaysian population donating blood last year .  Moreover, from 1997 to July this year, only 393,221 people or 1.2 per cent of the 32 million population in Malaysia has pledged to donate their organs.

“The National Blood Centre and National Transplant Resource Centre needs all the help it can get. In the spirit of Malaysia Day, we call upon people to unite through the act of donating blood and pledging to donate their organs to help those who are in need. We garnered 97pints of blood and 25organ pledges yesterday and it was heart warming to see our employees as well as Menara NU2 and Menara Allianz Sentral tenants coming together as one for the cause. We hope that the initiative will raise greater awareness on the importance of blood and organ donation and inspire people to be part of this noble cause,” said Zakri Khir, CEO of Allianz Malaysia Berhad.
