The 2016 edition of the Allianz Junior Football Camp (AJFC) Malaysia League is in full swing.

On 9 April 2016, the League’s Northern and East Coast Region competition got underway at Universiti Sains Malaysia, Penang and Padang Majlis Perbandaran Kuantan and Kolej Islam Pahang in Kuantan respectively.

The League began a week earlier on 2 April 2016 for the Central and Southern regions as teams played their first round of matches at the at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Bangi and Kompleks Sukan Hang Jebat, Malacca respectively.

This year’s competition is held at four locations and offers aspiring Malaysian footballers aged 14 to 16 the opportunity to train with record 25-time German Champions FC Bayern Munich in Munich, Germany.

“Since the start of AJFC Malaysia in 2012, we have seen so many talented young footballers come through the programme. Last year, we had five Malaysian players who made it to Munich and we are excited to see this year’s batch of talented players come through. While the big prize is to win the league and visit FC Bayern, our hope is for the players to take away integral football principles such as fair play, respect, teamwork and unity from this experience,” said Zakri Khir, CEO of Allianz Malaysia Berhad.

During the six-week League, the 63 teams registered will play 11-a-side matches for 60-minutes. Regional Finals for Central and Southern regions will take place on 7 May 2016, followed by East Coast Region on 14 May 2016 and Northern Region on 28 May 2016. The regional selection panel will then select the top 18 players from each region to form four regional teams. These teams will then compete in the National Finals at UKM, Bangi on 3 and 4 June 2016. Following the Finals, the top 13 talented players will be selected to attend Asia Camp in Bali, Indonesia from 19-21 July 2016. From the Asia Camp, the best three Malaysian players will attend AJFC in Munich, Germany in 25-30 August 2016.

“Through AJFC, we are able to offer youngsters a once-in-a-lifetime experience of being able to train under the FC Bayern Munich official youth coaches. It’s a total package as they will also get to meet the FC Bayern players as well as watch a home game at the iconic Allianz Arena,” added Zakri.

AJFC Malaysia debuted in 2012 with the Asia Camp introduced in 2014. Malaysia’s participation at AJFC in Munich, Germany has steadily grown from two entrants in 2012 to five entrants including a set of twins who were wildcard winners from the Asia Camp in Bali, Indonesia.
