The Allianz Junior Football Camp (AJFC) Malaysia League 2017 will make its way to East Malaysia for the very first time.
This year, the competition will be played across five regions, kicking off in Central and South (18 March 2017), North (25 March 2017), East Coast (1 April 2017) and East Malaysia (8 April 2017). The players will compete in the League to win 13 spots at AJFC Asia in Bali, Indonesia in July. At AJFC Asia, the players will vie for three spots to train with record 26-time German Champions FC Bayern Munich’s youth coaches in Munich, Germany in August.
“This year we bring to you the sixth edition of the competition and it goes without saying how proud I am of how far we have come. When we started out in 2012, we roughly had 450 players in the competition. Fast forward to 2016, that number grew to 1,134 players. Hitting milestones like that is always a great motivator for us to continue to reach out to more deserving youngsters. Today, I am very pleased to announce that this year, we are taking AJFC across the South China Sea to Kota Kinabalu, Sabah for the very first time,” said Zakri Khir, CEO of Allianz Malaysia Berhad during the launch at Aloft Hotel Kuala Lumpur today.
“For five years, we have steadily nurtured AJFC, adding different layers to the competition every year – taking it one step at a time by going from seven-a-side to 11-a-side; introducing the Malaysia League; and taking the competition to the East Coast in 2016. So we truly felt that 2017 was the right time to go beyond these borders and take the competition to Sabah,” added Zakri.
The AJFC Malaysia League will take place between 18 March and 20 May 2017 at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Bangi (Central region); Padang 10, Kompleks Sukan Hang Jebat, Malacca (South region); Universiti Sains Malaysia, Penang (North region); Padang Majlis Perbandaran Kuantan and Kolej Islam Pahang Kuantan (East Coast region) and Padang Sukma, in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah (East Malaysia region). This year’s league format will remain an 11-a-side affair played for 70 minutes.
The regional selection panel will then select the top 18 players from each region to form five regional teams that will compete in the Regional Finals. Following three days of centralised training, the five teams will go head to head to determine the winner at the Grand Final on 15 July 2017. At the culmination of the Grand Finals, 13 players will be selected to attend the AJFC Asia in Bali, Indonesia. At AJFC Asia, the best three players will be selected to attend AJFC in Munich, Germany.
