Top 13 players that qualify for AJFC Asia Camp in Bali, Indonesia revealed

The East Malaysia Regional team were crowned champions of the Allianz Junior Football Camp (AJFC) 2017 Grand Finals after beating the Northern Regional team 2- 0 at Stadium Universiti Putra Malaysia in Serdang today. 

The Southern region, East Coast region and Central region teams were the other three finalists in the AJFC 2017.

AJFC Malaysia League 2017 was held between 18 March and 20 May 2017 where following the six-week long season, Akademi Bolasepak FELDA (Central), JBFA (South), Anak Singa Utara KSMR (North), Kuantan Soccerkids A (East Coast) and SAFA Kota Belud (Sabah) were crowned champions of their respective regions.  The top-18 players from each region then formed a regional team that competed for bragging rights at the Grand Finals.

“I am immensely proud of AJFC this year. When we started out in 2012, we had roughly 450 players. Now in 2017, we have 1,584 players competing. We have brought our competition to five regions including Sabah this year which proved to be a great addition. Our mission is to keep developing grassroots football. So, no matter if you are from Arau, Perlis or  Tenom, Sabah, we hope that AJFC inspires you to have the confidence to move on and up in life and to keep playing football,” said Zakri Khir, Chief Executive Officer of Allianz Malaysia Berhad.  

Following the final, the best 13 players that will compete at AJFC Asia in Bali, Indonesia from 1 to 4 August 2017 was also announced. The selection of the players was based on the on criterias including football skills, tactical awarness, teamwork and temperment. 

At Asia Camp, the best three Malaysian players will be selected to attend AJFC in Munich, Germany and train under record 27-time German Champions FC Bayern Munich in Munich, Germany from 17-22 August 2017. 

FC Bayern Ambassador and AJFC Ambassador, Giovane Elber was also at the grand finals. Elber, a former FB Bayern striker who played a role in evaluating the players said: “I am excited for the boys as AJFC Asia is a great experience. It’s the perfect opportunity for the boys to gain valuable experiences under the watchful eyes of the youth coaches of FC Bayern and myself. Their aim should be to showcase their talent and impress the selectors to earn their chance to be part of AJFC Munich. But it is also equally important that they embrace and enjoy the whole experience.”

The AJFC Malaysia League officially launched in Kuala Lumpur on 8 February 2017 and was open to teams of 18 players aged between 14 to 16 years old. This is the ninth year that the Allianz Junior Football Camp is being held globally. This year, Malaysia was part of the event for the sixth consecutive year and has thus far witnessed the talents of 5,769 young aspiring footballers.
